Why Do Fandoms Exist? Why are People a Part of Them?
For my third Apollo project, we had to focus on the thinking skill reasoning. I wanted to know the reasons why people especially teens gravitate towards fandoms. Why do we become so protective over these things and why do we feel a need to be a part of a community?
So, I created a documentary on fandoms to answer these questions. The documentary features people from varying fandoms, ages, and countries. I had them speak about their experiences and their reasonings as to why fandoms play such a big roll in their life. Fandoms can be another family for certain people and they are an easy way to connect to people who enjoy the same things as you. When I spoke to people whether it was through messaging or video they all said the same thing, fandoms are like a family and they have met so many friends through them. Another reason why I wanted to make this documentary about fandoms was to prove people/media wrong. People usually adults and the media have a thought in their mind that fandoms are full of obsessive and crazy teenage girls. The truth is that fandoms are diverse and full of helpful and passionate people.
